Final Piece

This is my final piece using the idea size to represent power.

Final Development

I continued to go with the size of a person being a way to express the power they have. My idea moved to being focus on someone being to small to perform a task that is easy to do (watering the garden) and this was the piece. For my final, I stuck with the idea but re took the photos so that they looked better and more natural when composed into one photo.

Experiment

This was an idea to take idea idea of a powerful person by mixing him with a machine to make him literally looking powerful. I used photos of a car engine for the machine part and I multiplied the layers to make it look as though the skin has come off and there is robotics below.

Chemigram

I made a chemigram as an experiment, and was unsure whether to take it further. I scanned it into photoshop and changed the levels and contrast to bring some of the textures out. I then inverted it to get a different effect. I printed off the three different changes and used a pen to draw on them I started drawing outlines on some to make them seem more important and make it look as if it was an unknown part of a living thing. On the inverted one, I kept seeing creatures in the shapes and so drew a powerful scary creature all over it with a few small people looking scared. To me it looks like a dystopian place being over taken an all powerful creature that is destroying everything and this is the effect I tried to create with the drawing I added.

Development - Mini people

I did some more work with little people in a much larger world, I experimented with putting them in a very messy cupboard with them treating it like they were ascending a mountainside using each object in the cupboard as a different feature. I like the idea still however I don't the feel that the setting was well thought out or shot so I will try other settings with other little people doing different tasks to refine my idea.

Motion Blur Experimentation

I experimented with using motion blur to show movement with a still photo. I started just using photos of the subject running and walking across the frame, I then had the idea to add in multiple moving people to add to the the dynamic moving image effect. However I had to combine all the photos for this effect  as i didn't have any more people to photograph so I will should this photo using pedestrians in a town.

Experiment Nature vs Machine

For this idea, I was thinking about things that have power, my first thought was of nature and then how humans create energy that we can use. In this piece I am trying to show these two different 'sides' and how one often destroys the other whilst growing itself. I expressed through two different sides in the photo having a face off. I represented the ideas as people with representative pictures multiplied over their faces. I created two different pieces using some different pictures, backgrounds to see which worked out the best. I feel that they worked out okay and the effect i was looking for was achieved, however it seems that there is something missing from the photo.

Size Experiment

I had an idea to show the idea of power using size. I specifically thought I could use power in a relationship with one half of the being smaller than the other. I also placed them into the others palm as it fits with the saying 'In the palm of your hand', the meaning being that someone has almost supreme control over another person. So for this I used the male in the relationship being in he palm of the woman hand with his hands in the air in a begging pose.

I feel that my pieces worked fairly well and the impression is given off well. However, I feel that the photos and framing could be better in them, also the male looks slightly stark against the background and could be made to blend in better.

Marc Riboud artist copy

For my artist copy i realised a lot of Marc Riboud's photos photograph significant events, something which wasn't realistic for me to be able to emulate. However he also did a lot of street photography with unaware subjects just doing their activities as normal, this is what tried to copy. I also put the photo in black and white as he always does.
